August 18 ------ THE Philippines jumped four places to No. 34 in the latest FIBA World Ranking Men that was released after the 2024 Paris Olympics. The rise in the rankings can be attributed to Gilas Pilipinas' campaign in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament where the team coached by Tim Cone reached the semifinals. Gilas Pilipinas eventually lost to Brazil, which went on to qualify in the Olympics and reached the quarterfinals.
The OQT campaign also saw Gilas Pilipinas beating one of the top teams in Europe in Latvia, which dropped three places to No. 9 after it failed to reach the Olympics. United States remained at No. 1 in the men's ranking after winning the gold medal in the Paris Olympics. Serbia jumped to second after a bronze medal finish in Paris, followed by Germany and France, which rose five places after its silver in the Olympic Games.
