Gilas moves up one spot at 37th in FIBA world rankings

March 9 ------ Gilas Pilipinas improved one spot in the FIBA Men’s World Ranking following a strong performance in the first window of the 2025 Asia Cup qualifiers. The Nationals are now at 37th in the world standings in the latest update a slight improvement to its 38th place after the FIBA 2023 World Cup. The rise in the rankings came in the heels of Gilas’ sweep of the February window of the FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers where it dominated Hong Kong, 94-64, and Chinese Taipei, 106-53.

There was no drastic change in the rankings among its Asian neighbors as Gilas remained the eighth best team in the continent. Australia remained the top team in the region, albeit, it dropped one spot to fifth place in the world rankings from its previous fourth place. New Zealand (21st), Japan (26th), Iran (27th) and Lebanon (28th) remained in their places to comprise the Top 5 of the Asia-Oceania rankings.

China sits outside the Top 5 at 29th in the world while Jordan remained five spots ahead of Gilas at 32nd. South Korea is ninth in the region at 50th in the world followed by Saudi Arabia at 64th. The Top 3 squads in the world remained unchanged with Team USA still the No. 1 team followed by Spain and Germany. Serbia jumped at fourth to eclipse Australia. Completing the Top 10 are Latvia, Canada, France, Argentina and Lithuania.

The latest update in the rankings is also the last before the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament set in July. Gilas will be taking on Latvia right on its home turf along with the world No. 23 Georgia.
