Gilas, India dispute lone group berth for 3x3 Asia Cup main draw

March 27 ------ GILAS Pilipinas moved closer to earning a berth in the main draw of the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup after scoring back-to-back wins in the opener of the qualifiers Wednesday at the OCBC Arena in Singapore.

The Filipino quartet kicked off its campaign by dumping Macau, 21-12, then followed it up with a close victory against South Korea, 17-15, to share the lead in Draw B with India, both holding identical 2-0 records.

Joseph Sedurifa had 10 points to pace Gilas in the win against Macau, while Jeff Manday accounted for 12 of the team's 17 points against the Sokors, who Gilas defeated in the 3x3 basketball for the first time ever. The team of coach Patrick Fran will go for a sweep of its group when it battles India in a winner-take-all match on Thursday afternoon for a spot in the main draw that starts on Friday. Only one team per draw group will advance.

India earlier subdued South Korea, 21-11, and then routed Macau, 21-6. With similar 0-2 slates, South Korea and Macau are already out of the running.

Aside from Manday and Sedurifa, also comprising the Gilas 3x3 team are JJ Manlangit and Jose Antonio Eusebio.
