June 9 ------ The Gilas Pilipinas U18 Girls will be tested as they eye a Division A promotion in the 2024 FIBA U18 Women's Asia Cup in Shenzhen, China. The Filipinas, who currently rank No. 49, are bracketed at Group B which includes Syria (51), Lebanon (86), and Maldives (96). On the other hand, Group A has Samoa (48), Iran (66), Hong Kong (73) and Kyrgyzstan (100).
Gabby Ramos, Alicia Villanueva, Naomi Panganiban and Ava Fajardo, sister of Gilas women’s senior member Ella, are expected to be at the forefront as they gun for a Division A spot which the Pat Aquino-mentored team achieved more than a decade ago. And for current head coach Julie Amos, the job is far from over and vowed to train her wards ever harder. “We were able to get that momentum and confidence needed to play in FIBA. Mission is not done yet. We will not stop preparing,” Amos said. “More so, we will embrace hard work and hopefully get it going until we make it to the top in Division B and qualify to Division A,” she added.
The Filipina cagers recently stamped their class in the recently concluded SEABA Qualifiers in Ratchaburi, Thailand where they smashed the Thais (103-58), Malaysians (100-68) and Indonesians (73-37) to qualify in the Chinese tiff slated June 24 to 30.
