Miss Universe Philippines 2020 candidate Alaiza Malinao announced on Saturday, August 28, that she is pregnant. “Hindi kayo namamalikmata, malinaw na malinaw na Inday am going to be a Mama,” she wrote in a caption along a photo of her showing off her baby bump while wearing a white terno.
Alaiza, who represented Davao City and finished in the top 16 of the Miss Universe Philippines 2020 pageant, looked back at the past year. “I cried, I grieved, I celebrated and above all, sobrang laki ng pasasalamat ko sa suporta at pagmamahal na binigay niyo sa akin. ‘Yun ang isa sa mga pinakamalaking surprise ng taong 2020 para sa akin.
Reminiscing on her pageant journey, she added, “Gusto ko lang naman patunayan na kaya ng isang Inday ipakita kung sino siya bilang isang Pilipina, pero kahit hindi pabor ang Universe sa plano ko pinakita niya sa akin ang kahalagahan ko.” She then addressed her supporters, “I am grateful for the people who genuinely fought with me, who stood by me and for the people who are still walking with me through life.”
While she did not get to win the crown, Alaiza believed that her life still changed during the pageant night. “Sa gabing ‘yun, namatayan ako ng pangarap pero totoo din ‘yung kasabihan na ‘We have to lose something precious in order to gain something priceless,” she wrote. Fellow beauty queens Rabiya Mateo, Pia Wurtzbach, Kylie Verzosa, Megan Young, and Nicole Cordoves left congratulatory messages on Alaiza’s post. Alaiza also joined Binibining Pilipinas in 2015 and Asia’s Next Top Model season four in 2016.
