Football: Filipinas fall to Finland in friendly

February 22 ------ The Philippine women's national football team opened 2024 with a 4-0 defeat to Finland in a friendly at the Pinatar Arena in Murcia, Spain. The Filipinas were competing for the first time since the second round of the AFC Olympic Qualifiers in November.

Oona Sevenius grabbed a hat-trick, as the 19-year-old opened the scoring in the 24th minute. Eva Nyström doubled world No. 27 Finland's advantage four minutes later before Sevenius made it 3-0 two minutes before the break. Sevenius completed the scoring in the 72nd minute. Filipinas coach Mark Torcaso handed international debuts to Camille Sahirul -- who was part of the starting XI -- as well as Katana Norman and Alexa Pino.

The Filipinas will be back in action on February 24 against Scotland in the Pinatar Cup.
