MANILA, Philippines, April 15 ------ The Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv cautioned Filipinos against going to Jerusalem, West Bank, Golan Heights, and areas near Gaza and Lebanon amid the heightened security situation in Israel and in the region.
In an advisory it issued on Facebook, the embassy advised Filipinos to postpone or avoid travel to these areas in Jerusalem - Temple Mount, Damascus Gate, Herod's Gate, Al Wad Road, Musrara Road, and East Jerusalem. "Your safety and well-being are important to the embassy. Let us all be careful," the embassy said in Filipino. "Do not go near Israeli security forces stationed in sensitive areas. Follow the reminders of the Israeli security forces and the Home Front Command," it added.
Iran launched an unprecedented drone and missile attack on Israel Saturday (Sunday in Manila), in a major escalation of the long-running war between the regional foes. Iran had repeatedly threatened to strike Israel in retaliation for a deadly April 1 air strike on its Damascus consular annex and Washington had warned repeatedly in recent days that the reprisals were imminent.
There are more than 30,000 Filipinos in Israel and about 2,000 in Iran.
