Filipinos affected by wildfires urged to check with American Red Cross for financial aid eligibility

MANILA, Philippines, January 22 ------ The Philippine Consulate General (PCG) in Los Angeles encouraged Filipinos affected by wildfires to check with the American Red Cross (ARC) if they were eligible for financial aid. The PCG, in its advisory on Facebook, said the American Red Cross was "currently reaching out to wildfire survivors to discuss their eligibility for financial assistance."

There were about 200 Filipinos affected by wildfires in Southern California and nearby areas. It advised Filipinos or Filipino-Americans to visit ARC's website to "learn more" on how to avail of the monetary aid. The PCG shared the ARC's announcement which read:"If you've been impacted by wildfires in Southern California, the American Red Cross is here to help you recover."

The ARC also said it was "currently reaching out to wildfire survivors to discuss their eligibility for financial assistance." "In addition to assisting those currently in our shelters, we will also begin providing financial assistance to Californians who lived within the fire perimeters of Eaton, Palisades, Hurst, and Kenneth, as defined by Cal OES," it said. The assistance from the American Red Cross "is not considered a duplication of benefits for insurance or a government agency," it added.

The Red Cross "is only part of the solution to recovery and we encourage people who were affected by the recent wildfires to apply for federal disaster assistance." "FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) approval is not required to be eligible for Red Cross financial assistance," it added.

The ARC said it "is committed to providing individuals affected by the devastating wildfires with safe shelter, access to food, basic health services, and emotional support."
