February 7 ------ The Philippine Under-17 national team absorbed a 0-2 defeat against England U-17 in their first game of the MIMA Cup 2024, at the Pinatar Arena in Murcia, Spain. Isabella Fisher (35') and Emily Cassap (55') provided the goals for England though the young Filipinas gave a good account of themselves, particularly on the defensive end. They also had a good chance to go ahead early on, after Nina Mathelus drew a foul at the edge of the box just four minutes into the contest.
Alexa Pino's free kick was denied by the English defenders, however, and Fisher finally grabbed their breakthrough in the 35th minute off a Mia Endacott cross. The young Filipinas return to action on Thursday against Sweden U-17.
The MIMA Cup is part of the Filipinas U-17's build-up to the AFC U-17 Women's Asian Cup 2024 later this year in Indonesia.
