Filipinas fall to Slovenia to conclude Pinatar Cup campaign

February 29 ------ The Philippine women's national football team absorbed a painful 1-0 loss to Slovenia in the third-place match of the Pinatar Cup, 2024. Lana Golob scored the lone goal of the match just in the fifth minute, and it proved enough as the Filipinas were unable to find an equalizer in the match held at the Pinatar Arena in Murcia, Spain.

After giving up an early goal, the Philippines' defense proved up to the task the rest of the way, with Olivia McDaniel denying further attempts from Zala Kuštrin and Lara Prašnikar in the second half.

In their first game of the four-nation competition, the Filipinas lost 0-2 to Scotland behind a brace from Martha Thomas. Finland emerged as champions of the tournament after beating Scotland, 5-4, in penalties following a 1-1 draw.

The Pinatar Cup is the first official competition for the Filipinas after the AFC Olympic Qualifiers in November. They earlier suffered a 0-4 loss to Finland in a friendly ahead of the tournament.
