Filipinas face Sam Kerr as Australia brings World Cup core to Olympic qualifiers


October 13 ------ AUSTRALIA will be bringing its top guns when it competes in the second round of the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024 Asian qualifiers. Team captain and Chelsea star Sam Kerr, one of the best strikers in women's football today, headlines the Matildas squad that will be facing three teams, including the Philippines on Oct. 29.


Vice captain Steph Catley, Mary Fowler, and goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold also lead the 21 players of the team that played for the Matildas in the Fifa Women’s World Cup where they reached the semifinals. Also part of the team are Ellie Carpenter, Alex Chidiac, Kyra Cooney-Cross, Cailtin Foord, Katrina Goory, Charlotte Grant, Clare Hunt, Alanna Kennedy, Teagan Micah, Courtney Nevin, Clare Polkinghorne, Hayley Raso, Charlize Rule, Amy Sayer, Emily Van Egmond, Cortnee Vine, Clare Wheeler, Lydia Williams, and Tameka Yallop.


The Philippines will face Chinese Taipei on October 29 and Iran on Nov. 1 at the Perth Rectangular Stadium. For the Australia match, however, the Filipinas will be playing at the 60,000-seater Perth Stadium.


The top team in each of the three groups will automatically advance to the third round, along with the best second-placer.
