Filipinas drop 2 spots in FIFA women's rankings

MANILA, December 30 ------ The Philippine women's national football team dropped two spots to No. 41 in the latest edition of the FIFA Women's World Rankings, released. The Filipinas had mixed results in the FIFA window last October, beating Jordan 3-0 before falling to the lower-ranked Kenya, 4-1.

The loss to Kenya was a shocker, given the disparity in their ranking. The Filipinas came in to the match ranked 39th while Kenya was at 151. Their foes have since improved to 149 in the global rankings. The Philippines is the seventh ranked team in Asia, behind Japan (8), Korea DPR (9), Australia (15), China (17), South Korea (20), and Vietnam (37).

Still at No. 1 in the rankings are Olympic champions United States, while Spain improved to No. 2 and Germany rose to third. England fell two spots to No. 4, while Sweden completed the top five. FIFA noted the improvement of Poland (28th, +4), Belarus (50th, +5), Indonesia (97th, +7) and Estonia (99th, +8), while Bangladesh (132nd, +7, 1097.55 points) and Saudi Arabia (166th, +8, 877.08 points) continue to head in the right direction as well.

Saudi Arabia's ranking is its highest ever, while Northern Ireland (44th, +1) and Cabo Verde (129th, +1) also claimed a similar milestone.
