August 18 ------ Jalen Green’s impressive stint in the NBA Summer League has likely come to an end as he sustained a hamstring injury in the first half of the Houston Rockets’ 92-76 loss to the Toronto Raptors on Thursday, August 12 (Friday, August 13, Manila time). Green, the second overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft, was seen limping after landing on a jump shot and exited the game with less than three minutes left in the second quarter. He did not return afterwards and finished the game with 13 points on 3-of-5 shooting from deep to go with 3 rebounds in just 12 minutes of play.
Although the Rockets believe Green’s injury is not a “significant concern,” league sources said that Green will likely be held out of the Rockets’ two remaining Summer League games and will undergo an MRI on his sore right hamstring as a precaution. Prior to the injury, the Filipino-American guard Green dazzled in his first two outings as a member of the Houston Rockets, averaging 24 points and 5 rebounds.
In his NBA Summer League debut, Green put up 23 points and displayed an array of difficult step back jumpers to lead the Rockets to an 84-76 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. He then followed it up with a 25-point performance against No. 1 pick Cade Cunningham in the Rockets’ 111-91 victory over the Detroit Pistons.
