Eldrew Yulo ends 2024 by winning eight gold medals in HK meet




December 16 ------ ELDREW Yulo won eight gold medals to highlight a medal-rich Philippine campaign in the Chiu Wai Chung Cup in Hong Kong, the final competition of the year for the national gymnastics team. Yulo won the individual all-around and all six apparatuses – floor exercise, vault, parallel bars, horizontal bar, pommel horse, and still rings - while being part of the junior men’s artistic gymnastics team that ruled the team event.


Yulo’s victories were part of the 14-gold, six-silver, five-bronze medal haul of the Philippines in the tournament to cap a banner 2024 for the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines highlighted by the two gold medals of Carlos Yulo at the Paris Olympics. The seniors men’s artistic gymnastics team also took the gold in the team event.


Miguel Besana also got gold medals in the seniors individual all-around, floor exercise, and pommel horse, while Justine Ace De Leon topped the still rings and parallel bars mints. Besana also grabbed the silvers in the still rings, parallel bars, and vault, and bronze in the horizontal bar. De Leon also went home with a bronze in the vault.


Other medalists include Hillarion III Palles (pommel horse bronze, parallel bars bronze), John Matthew Vergara (horizontal bar silver, parallel bars bronze), Jhon Romeo Santillan (floor exercise silver), and Jan Gwynn Timbang (pommel horse silver).
