June 25 ------ With only weeks left before he plunges back to Olympic Games action, EJ Obiena continued to show fine improvement as he clinched back-to-back gold medals in Poland. The Filipino pole vault ace reigned supreme in the Czeslaw Cybulski Memorial, vaulting past 5.87 meters to rule the 10-man field. His performance allowed him to also set a new stadium and meeting record.
The 28-year-old Obiena beat home bet and familiar foe Piotr Lisek, who soared past 5.82 meters to settle for silver while Hussain Asim Al Hizam of Saudi Arabia netted the bronze with his 5.62m-outing.
The new golden clearance came just days after Obiena topped the Irena Szewinska Memorial in Bydgoszcz, where he registered 5.97 meters.
