
MANILA, Philippines, February 24 ------ In a bid to prevent a further rise in dengue cases, the Department of Health is spearheading an activity tomorrow afternoon that aims to eliminate dengue-carrying mosquitoes in different areas across the country.
The DOH, in a social media post, is inviting all agencies, cities and municipalities to take part in the “Nationwide Search and Destroy Mosquito Breeding Sites Kick-Off Event for Dengue Prevention and Control” to be held at 4 p.m. The health department stressed that the nationwide initiative, dubbed Alas Kwatro, Kontra Mosquito, “aims to strengthen collective efforts in controlling the spread of dengue by identifying and eliminating mosquito breeding sites, which are critical in reducing the prevalence of the disease.” “As dengue cases continue to rise across the country, it is essential that we unite our resources and efforts to implement effective, immediate and sustainable interventions,” the DOH added.
Among the areas where clean-up drives will be held are Barangay Batasan Hills, Quezon City; Barangay Bolong Oeste, Sta. Barbara, Iloilo; San Dionisio, Iloilo; Barangay 1, San Jose, Antique; municipalities in Guimaras; Barangay Tondog, Aklan; Josefina, Zamboanga del Sur; Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental; El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental; Iligan City, Lanao del Norte; Norala, South Cotabato; Municipality of Banga, South Cotabato; Surallah, South Cotabato; Lebak, Sultan Kudarat; Columbio, Sultan Kudarat and General Santos City.
The DOH said other areas would be added to the list before the scheduled activity on Monday.
