DMW: 10 million jobs open for caregivers

MANILA, Philippines, March 21 ------ Around 10 million job vacancies worldwide are expected to open for Filipino caregivers and other migrant workers in the next five years, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

Citing data from the World Health Organization, the DMW said the global care economy needs 10 million workers by 2030. “When it comes to the health care sector, Filipino caregivers, nurses or nursing assistants are the best,” Migrant Workers Undersecretary Patricia Caunan said. She said the DMW is working to transform Filipino household service workers, factory workers and even human trafficking victims into care workers. Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Cacdac said they want to harness the caring culture that is innate among Filipinos.

The DMW announced that over 4,000 overseas jobs will be offered for women workers during the mega job fair to be held tomorrow at Robinsons Galleria in Ortigas from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., as part of National Women’s Month.
