MANILA, November 8 ------ The Philippine government is eager to bring its alliance with the United States to “even greater heights” under President-elect Donald Trump, Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo said.
In a statement, Manalo said he looks forward to working with his American counterparts who will make up Trump’s administration. “The Philippines reaffirms its commitment to continue working with the United States to advance Philippines-US relations. I look forward to working with our counterparts in bringing our alliance to even greater heights under the administration of President-elect Donald Trump,” he said. Manalo congratulated the US for the successful conduct of its presidential elections on Nov. 5, saying this reaffirmed the “robustness of American democratic values and institutions.”
Trump was elected the 47th president of the US, becoming the second US leader to serve two non-consecutive terms. He defeated Democrat presidential candidate Kamala Harris after reaching at least 270 electoral votes to finish the race, which now stands at 295 to the latter’s 226, according to The Associated Press.
