Creamline snatches top seed away from PLDT after sweeping Nxled

August  9 ------ CREAMLINE chalked up a pool-topping 25-18, 25-18, 25-20 victory over Nxled in the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference at the Philsports Arena. Bernadeth Pons continued to embrace her lead spiker role and stretched the Cool Smashers' win streak to four with 13 points and 14 digs in a strong finish to Round 1.

Creamline claimed the top seed out of Pool A even if PLDT and Chery Tiggo draw level with them at 4-1 by the end of Round 1, as they have a superior 13 match-point haul. The eight-time PVL champions will join a stacked Pool C in Round 2 with Petro Gazz, Choco Mucho, and ZUS Coffee. “Ang key naman diyan is mag-improve kami every game, every training, so ‘yung mga lapses namin nung (loss to PLDT) is talagang ma-correct namin,” Cool Smashers head coach Sherwin Meneses said. “Hopefully, mag-improve pa kami hanggang dulo dahil sa pagkatalo namin, maraming lapses.” he added.

In the absence of Creamline’s original ‘Big 3,’ its new ace trifecta continued to deliver on the scoring front with back-to-back 13-point outputs from Pons and American import Erica Staunton alongside Michelle Gumabao’s 12-piece. The Cool Smashers held fort in the face of a late 7-1 run by their opponents in the third set. That would be the only time the Chameleons gained traction all-match long, however, as none of them hit double-figures.

Jho Maraguinot’s nine markers and 13 receptions and a dismal seven-point night from another American reinforcement in Meegan Hart paced Nxled's tough round-ending defeat.
