MANILA, Philippines, February 7 ------ The Creamline Cool Smashers extended their unbeaten run to eight games after pummeling the Chery Tiggo Crossovers, 25-17, 25-17, 25-21, in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the PhilSports Arena. Bea de Leon paced the Cool Smashers in the dominant win with 13 points on 8 attacks, 3 aces, and 2 blocks. The victory is also their 18th straight win in the PVL, stretching from the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference last August, to stay as the lone undefeated team in the league.
Creamline had to break loose from a 19-all deadlock in the third set through a 6-2 finishing run en route to the straight-set win. “This is a big lift for us because we won in straight sets,” Creamline coach Sherwin Meneses said in Filipino. Last time, we relaxed in the third set, and our opponent got the third set. That last game was a lesson for us now. We’re very thankful to the players who responded to the third set.”
Jema Galanza added 9 points, on top of Jeanette Panaga and Tots Carlos’ 8-point performances for the Cool Smashers. Meanwhile, Alyssa Valdez played two sets and dropped 7 points in another win for the Grand Slam champions. Ara Galang shone with 14 points on 12 attacks and 2 kill blocks for the Chery Tiggo albeit for naught.
In the nightcap, the Cignal HD Spikers dominated the Capital1 Solar Spikers, 25-12, 25-15, 25-17, to halt their two-game skid. The HD Spikers used a 9-1 attack in the third set to turn a tight 7-6 cushion into a 16-7 commanding lead and never looked back, completing the sweep. Cignal came off two straight losses against the PLDT High Speed Hitters and defending champions Creamline before pulling off the lopsided beatdown of the Solar Spikers, who fell to their fifth straight loss. Judith Abil and Ishie Lalongisip led the HD Spikers with 13 points apiece, while Vanie Gandler contributed 7 points, 7 digs, and 9 receptions.
