MANILA, Philippines, December 20 ----- The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), in collaboration with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), conducted routine patrol in Bajo De Masinloc (Scarborough Shoal) in the West Philippine Sea.
The PCG said that during aerial surveillance conducted in the area, a BFAR patrol aircraft monitored two China Coast Guard vessels (3106 and 3104) positioned outside the shoal, along with seven Chinese Maritime Militia vessels. Two Chinese Maritime Militia vessels were also observed stationed inside the shoal, monitoring access routes into the area. Additionally, a People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) vessel was sighted approximately 50 nautical miles off the coast of Zambales.
During their routine patrol operation, PCG vessels BRP Teresa Magbanua and BRP Cabra distributed food packs and groceries to Filipino fishermen who were engaged in fishing near the shoal. Approximately 40 Filipino fishing boats were observed carrying out their fishing activities during the patrol. In a statement, both the PCG and BFAR said they were committed to upholding the rights of Filipino fishermen and ensuring their safety in the West Philippine Sea, while actively promoting peaceful and secure maritime operations.
