Chery Tiggo routs Farm Fresh in impressive PVL opener

July 17 ------ CHERY Tiggo gained a measure of revenge over Farm Fresh in straight sets, 25-13, 27-25, 25-22, to kick off the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference on a high on Tuesday at the Philsports Arena. In her return to Philippine shores for the first time in four years, two-time Philippine Superliga (PSL) champion Khat Bell hasn’t missed a beat with a game-high 23 points on 22 attacks and one block. Just as the Foxies picked up the pace in Set 2 following a 12-point beating, Bell & Co, slammed the door shut to cap a victorious three-set opening act.

For Bell, her PVL debut doesn’t feel like her first time as she sought to carry her championship pedigree in what she considers as a long-overdue return trip to Manila. “I’m coming in with the same mentality, same mindset. It’s been amazing to come back and the hospitality has been unreal. You know, Chery Tiggo has taken such good care of me, making sure I feel at home and being able to come here and be able to get into dynamic with the team really quickly, they’ve made it so easy for me,” said Bell. “Four years and I think everyone’s game has developed and changed as well with experience. So I think it’s all about just coming in, just being humble and making sure I do my due diligence as a player and looking out for my opponents, for sure.” she added.

No other Crossover breached double figures in scoring but was more than enough to secure a dominant first win. Bell also pitched in nine excellent digs and six excellent receptions to cap a strong Philippine comeback. Meanwhile, Japanese mentor Shota Sato’s head coaching debut with Farm Fresh was rather spoiled as Caitlin Viray (13 points) and Colombian guest import Yeny Murillo’s (10 points) best efforts fell flat.
