Chery Tiggo drops Farm Fresh to book PVL AFC quarterfinals spot

March 12 ------ CHERY Tiggo zoomed into the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference quarterfinals by knocking Farm Fresh out, 29-27, 15-25, 25-22, 25-21, and completing a two-game play-ins sweep at the Philsports Arena. Ara Galang's vintage 20-point performance built on 16 attacks, three blocks and one ace saw the Crossovers through to their fourth-straight playoffs appearance.

Two-way games from Shaya Adorador (18 points, 13 digs, 11 receptions) and Cess Robles (13 points, 13 digs) also helped Chery Tiggo's cause before battling it out with Creamline in the next round.

The Foxies pulled off a 10-point getaway in Set 2 after falling short in an extended opener. Come the third set, it was all Chery Tiggo as it averted what would’ve been the first five-setter of the play-ins.

Next in line for the Crossovers is 10-time PVL champion and five-peat-seeking Creamline in a best-of-three series. "Nakikita namin ngayon yung gaano rin katibay yung team namin sa ganung (dikitang) situations," said Galang. "Mahalaga na nate-test pa rin kami hanggang ngayon kasi sa quarterfinals hindi rin naman madali yung pagdadaanan namin. Babaunin nalang namin yung mga natutunan namin today."

Pacing the Foxies' play-in opening loss were Trisha Tubu with a game-high 22 markers and a trifecta of 12-point outputs from Jolina dela Cruz, Lorene Toring and Rizza Cruz. Ace winger Alyssa Bertolano was also one point shy of a triple-double with nine points, 13 digs and 23 receptions. The last day of Pool B play on Thursday will effectively feature a pair of no-bearing matches with the group’s lone playoff spot already decided.

Hence, Farm Fresh and Nxled are headed to the 2025 PVL Draft Lottery as two of the bottom four teams this conference set to make half of the first four selections.
