April 22 ------ CARLOS Yulo seized a gold in the parallel bars and silver in vault of the 16th Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Doha, Qatar. The Paris Olympics-bound Yulo captured the gold in the apparatus final by tallying 15.200 points to defeat Yuan Hsi Hung of Chinese Taipei (14.966) and Caio Souza of Brazil (14.566). Yulo nearly made it a double gold when he scored 15.066 in the vault, narrowly missing the title taken by Artur Davtyan of Armenia (15.166) in the final day of the competition that also serves as an Olympic qualifier.
Yulo's score in the vault final was an improvement from his 14.966 in the qualification phase. He also came in second in the parallel bars qualification with a score of 14.633. Yulo had already qualified for the Olympics via the World Championships last year in Antwerp, Belgium, but is also using the competition to beef up for Paris.
The Filipino gymnast has been training in Manila for his second Olympic campaign. He first competed in Tokyo in 2021, finishing fourth in the vault. During the Doha World Cup, Levi Jung-Ruivivar also booked a spot in the Olympics following her silver medal in the uneven bars. She will also join Aleah Finnegan in the Philippine delegation in Paris.
