Capital1 begins search for next woman up in post-Tushova era

November 14 ------ CAPITAL1’s post-Marina Tushova era didn’t have the dream start it’d hope for. A season-opening win was already a set away, but the Roger Gorayeb-led side lost control of the driver’s seat late in the fifth-set tiebreak at the hands of Chery Tiggo. While it was a finish Capital1 rued, there were more than a few signs that there’s more to the Tushova-less Solar Spikers than how their first assignment of the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference played out.

Tushova’s unrivaled greatness in the PVL isn’t what Capital1 players are keen on replicating as individuals. It’ll be more on drawing inspiration from what she brought to the table in her brief stay and carving their own paths for as the Solar Spikers’ new heart and soul. Hence, Capital1’s search isn’t for the next Tushova but for the next woman up. “Nag-look kami sino 'yung mag-sstep up. Gusto ko rin kasi umako ng responsibility kaya I try my best talaga na mag-deliver ng points,” said rookie Leila Cruz who had a career-best 20 points in the season-opening loss.

“Physically, nag-double work talaga sa strength and conditioning. ‘Yun 'yung naka-help din. At the same time, hindi rin ganun ka-satisfied pa kasi marami pa rin akong na-miss na mga bola which is 'yung mga crucial parts. “’Yun talaga 'yung big deal pa rin for me na kailangan kong i-improve pa.”
