December 19 ------ BARANGAY Ginebra got back to its winning ways, beating Terrafirma, 114-98 in the PBA 49th Season Commissioner’s Cup at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium. Justin Brownlee exploded for 49 points as he regained his shooting touch after missing four fours and six threes in the Kings' loss to guest team Eastern last week.
Ginebra improved to 3-1 even with Stephen Holt and Japeth Aguilar out due to an injury as Terrafirma remained winless through six games. “It was a good win for us because we are missing two starters, two really important starters that have been contributing big time for us in Japeth and Stephen,” said Ginebra coach Tim Cone. "There was a little bit of anxiety coming into this basketball game, wondering if we can match-up," he added.
Brownlee shot 6-for-11 from threes while also hauling 12 rebounds and dishing out six assists for Ginebra. RJ Abarrientos finished with 18 points, six assists, and two steals, while Troy Rosario contributed 17 points and five rebounds in a game where the crowd favorites led by as many as 22 points. Brandon Edwards had 27 points and 12 rebounds, while Vic Manuel added 19 points for the Dyip, who were able to cut the deficit to six points in the final minutes only for the Gin Kings to finish the game strong. Stanley Pringle scored 11 points in his first game against his former team.
