February 2 ------ With songs that resonate with listeners and undeniable energy in every performance — Filipino band The Juans have been captivating audiences since their inception. From the emotional depth of "Hindi Tayo Pwede" to the anthemic "Tama Ka Na," their music has sparked connection and sing-alongs, making them a staple in the Filipino music scene. As they mark their 10th anniversary, the band is poised to enter an exciting new phase. With 2025 shaping up to be their biggest year, anticipation for what's to come is growing. "We're working on a full album that we're really excited for people to hear," said Carl Guevarra, lead vocalist and keyboardist. "It's got that familiar hugot [feels] everyone loves, but this time, we're also exploring new themes."
RJ Cruz, the band's acoustic guitarist, revealed that the upcoming album will incorporate more fun and color. "Each member is stepping up to take a bigger role in shaping the band's sound this time. We're not just sticking to what's familiar — this time, we're experimenting with different genres and pushing our creative boundaries to bring something fresh to the fans," Cruz explained.
The band's plans extend beyond new music. A tour across the Philippines and internationally is also on the horizon. "We're looking forward to connecting with Juanistas again. It's going to be a year of growth for us and our fans," Guevarra said. Having already achieved sold-out shows, The Juans have proven their ability to connect with the crowd. Over the years, they have fine-tuned their sound, with live performances playing a key role in their development.
Lead guitarist Japs Mendoza highlighted the significance of the crowd's energy, "There's really nothing like the energy of a live audience. We love testing new songs in our live shows and seeing how people react. If we're excited, they're excited. If we're feeling something deep, they're feeling it too." The Juans' music is known for its raw honesty, and bassist Chael Adriano is eager to continue that journey. "We plan to release more tracks that explore our experiences with relationships, healing, and personal growth." This journey is reflected not only in their music but also in their identity, from their lyrics to their logo. Before achieving recognition for their unique sound, the band was a group of "mga simpleng juan na nangangarap at patuloy nagsusumikap (simple Juans who dream and continue to strive)," as Guevarra often puts it.
Despite the challenges faced along the way, they have remained steadfast in their pursuit of dreams, with their logo serving as a reminder of their faith and perseverance: "By His stripes, we are healed. Three days later, He rose from the dead." The bold, three-stripe design might appear simple, but for the members, it symbolizes their faith and heart. It reflects their determination to rise stronger with every challenge, a journey they've lived out over the past decade. Looking ahead, it's clear that this is just the beginning. With a full album in the works, a year filled with touring, and an evolving sound, the future holds endless possibilities for The Juans. "The journey continues, and the best is yet to come," the band declared.
