MANILA, April 17 ------ Alex Eala bowed out of the WTA 125k Oeiras in Portugal after a close 3 set loss to a Russian foe in the round of 32. Eala's opponent was originally Gabriela Lee of Romania, but was replaced by lucky loser, Russian Julia Avdeeva.
Avdeeva ranked 208th in the world by the World Tennis Association. Eala took the first set but lost in 3 with Avdeeva winning 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. Some good news for Eala as of April 15, as she achieved a new all-time career high in women’s singles tennis.
She moved 3 places up from no. 172 and is now rank no. 169 in the world. Eala has started the clay court season and expected to compete at the French Open Qualifiers later in May.
