September 15 ------ ALAS Pilipinas players have been cleared to re-join their PVL teams. The decision was conveyed by PNVF president Ramon 'Tats' Suzara to the players and club managements. "All players of Alas have been released as of today. They can join their respective clubs," PVL president Ricky Palou told reporters.
Cignal made the first move among PVL clubs to field their Alas players Vanie Gandler and Dawn Macandili-Catindig back for Monday's match against Creamline. “Inannounce ni President Tats Suzara that they’re released as of today and they can go and join the PVL games,” he added.
The initial announcement made on Sunday was reiterated on Monday as Alas Pilipinas Men and Women were invited to the Senate for a courtesy call with Senators Alan and Pia Cayetano. Both national teams were commended by the Senate for their historic back-to-back bronze-medal wins in the 2024 Southeast Asian (SEA) V.League last August. “He (Suzara) announced it last night. Pero kanina when we met with them, inannounce niya ulit. They’re free to play with their respective clubs."
Another Alas player whose team is still in the PVL Invitational Conference fold is Creamline’s Jema Galanza. The former PVL MVP didn’t suit up against Cignal unlike her two national team cohorts in Gandler and Macandili-Catindig. But as per Palou, her return might come as soon as Wednesday in the penultimate Invitationals load. “I was telling Jema why aren’t you in uniform? Sabi niya maybe next game babalik. Kasi we were in the Senate until six o’ clock, siguro late na rin siyang nakapunta rito (sa Mall of Asia Arena). But everybody (PVL teams) was aware.”
