Alas Men bound for Japan, 3 Euro countries for FIVB World Championship buildup

January 12 ------ ALAS Pilipinas Men will embark on a series of overseas training camps within the next eight months to prepare for the 2025 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship in September on home soil.

Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) president Ramon ‘Tats’ Suzara bared the nationals’ four international itineraries across Europe and Asia. “There’s a training camp for them (Alas Men) in Japan. We have also a training camp in Portugal, in Spain, and in Italy,” Suzara said. “My target here is that for them to stay outside of the Philippines for the next three or four months, and then balik na lang sila dito for the 100 days to go which is about June.”

The PNVF also plans to stage a four-team pocket tournament to mark the final 100 days before the World Championship goes underway on September 12. “We’re trying to arrange a pocket tournament against Korea, Japan, and one European team, parang pocket tournament, weekend lang. Pang-test event na ‘yun, 100 days to go before the World Championships,” added Suzara.

Also lined up for the eight-month buildup is a nationwide trophy tour which will begin in President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s home province of Ilocos Norte and resume in Baguio, Pampanga, Cebu, Bacolod, Zamboanga, and Cagayan de Oro. The forthcoming edition of the global conclave will be the first in 11 years to be hosted by a single participating nation, with the 32-team field being the biggest in tournament history.
