A new chapter for Sofia Pablo and Allen Ansay

January 13 ------ At the heart of "Prinsesa ng City" Jail is Princess (Pablo), a young woman raised near a prison by her adoptive jail guard father. She brings light to the lives of the people around her, especially the convicted criminals. Despite the love and happiness she finds with them, Princess still longs for a mother who abandoned her. On the other hand, Xavier (Ansay), is an angsty teenager who becomes an inmate under unusual circumstances. As the two form an unlikely bond, their relationship becomes a journey of forgiveness and rediscovery, with Xavier helping Princess reconnect with her long-lost mother and Princess teaching Xavier to let go of his past. Both Pablo and Ansay admitted that venturing into heavy drama was challenging.

The 18-year-old actress shared, "We're really thankful that he's our director, especially since this is our first heavy drama. We're not used to being emotional and crying in front of each other. We're more familiar with rom-coms and creating that spark. Director Jerry clearly explained what he wanted to see and what he wanted the audience to feel, as well as what we needed to bring out in our performances." Ansay, on the other hand, credited the project for pushing him out of his comfort zone. "I'm thankful because they really pushed us. I've learned so much from this show, and I'm grateful because we were able to create something truly beautiful," Ansay said.

The show's director Jerry Lopez Sineneng, who helped establish iconic love teams like Marvin Agustin and Jolina Magdangal in the late '90s, spoke highly of Pablo and Ansay, or Team Jolly and AlFia loveteam to their fans. "Their chemistry is so strong, even when they're not speaking, even off-camera. Then there's their dedication, like Marvin and Jolina back in the day, especially with Allen — his drive is reminiscent of Marvin's when he was just starting out and dreaming big," Sineneng said in a press conference. "Their talents are a perfect match, along with their support system. You can feel that if it's his scene, she will give it to him, and if it's her scene, he will give it to her. The respect and support they have for each other are truly there," he added.

As for the show, director Sineneng promises a series that goes beyond the typical love story. "It's very relatable, not just for the lead characters but for all the characters in the story. Each one is fully developed, and you'll see yourself in at least one of them. It's very relevant and timely. It's also interesting to be reminded of life on the inside and how it feels so good to be free," said Sineneng.
