More rains due to 'habagat' as Gardo moves away from PH

MANILA, July 11 ------ The 'habagat' or southwest monsoon will continue to bring rains over Western Visayas and large swaths of Luzon on Wednesday as Typhoon Gardo drifted away from the country, the state weather bureau said. Gardo (international name: Maria), which forced the cancellation of classes in some areas earlier this week, was tracked 650 kilometers north of Luzon's tip at 3 a.m, packing maximum sustained winds of 160 kilometers per hour and 195 kph gusts, PAGASA said.

The storm was headed towards Taiwan where thousands were evacuated.  The southwest monsoon will dump moderate to occasional heavy rains over Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Mindoro, Palawan, Romblon, and Western Visayas, said PAGASA weather specialist Loriedin Dela Cruz.  Metro Manila, Bicol Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, ARMM, Pangasinan, Marinduque, and the rest of Central Luzon and Calabarzon, she said, will experience occasional rains, also due to the habagat.  Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with localized thunderstorms, meanwhile, were expected over the rest of the country, she said.
