Ernie Gawilan cops 2nd gold in Asian Para Games

MANILA, Philippines, October 11 ------ Ernie Gawilan made historic waves once again after securing his second gold medal in the 2018 Asian Para Games swimming tournament on Wednesday, October 10 at the Gelora Bung Karno Aquatic Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia. The Paralympian clocked 1:19.90 in the men's 100m backstroke S7 category and shared the top spot with Japan's Daisuke Ejima.

Singapore's Wei Soong Toh settled for the bronze behind the golden winners at 1:20.21. After starting its campaign looking for an inaugural gold, the Philippines now has 6 gold medals under its belt. In the tenpin bowling mixed doubles B10 category, the duo of Chi Kim Ian and Samuel Matias delivered a silver medal after finishing with an average score of 210.80 behind Korea's golden pair of Hong Wonju and Sim Jinyong (232.10).

Thailand's Raiwin Phisitthanakul and Chaiwat Achatongkum nabbed the bronze. Earlier, the Philippine chess team highlighted the day with 3 gold medals from their six-medal haul. The Philippines climbed to 11th place in Day 4 of the continental games with 6 golds, 6 silvers and 6 bronzes for an 18-medal total.
