Phoenix clueless on process as it awaits lifting of Abueva ban

July 12 ------ PHOENIX is at a loss on the process that could lead to the lifting of the indefinite suspension on Calvin Abueva - or when that could happen. A month and three days since the controversial forward was suspended indefinitely for two separate on-court incidents, Phoenix coach Louie Alas admitted the team is clueless on what it would take to have the ban lifted. "Kailangan bigyan ng linaw ‘yung tao kasi parang nava-violate mo ‘yung rights,” the veteran coach added.

On Wednesday, Alas bared that Abueva's camp has already sent a letter to the Games and Amusement Board (GAB) detailing his side of the events that led to a clothesline on TNT KaTropa import Terrence Jones. Alas said the Abueva's letter was submitted upon the request of GAB, the government body that regulates professional sports in the country. Tapos kung ano ‘yung explanation niya, based on that kung ano ‘yung puwedeng ibigay kay Calvin,” said Alas. Abueva has also meet two weeks ago with PBA commissioner Willie Marcial to issue a formal apology on the two incidents.

Alas, however, has no clue on how that could help bring back Abueva, who the Fuel Masters sorely miss as they vie for a place in the playoffs in the ongoing PBA Commissioner's Cup. The team, no doubt, is eager to have 'The Beast' back. “Sabi nila, magbigay daw ng letter. Ginawa naman ni Calvin two weeks ago pero until now (wala pa),” said Alas. Even if Abueva is reinstated in time for the playoffs, Alas doubts if he can be in good enough shape to make a difference for the Fuel Masters. But again, the coach said 'Calvin is Calvin.'
